Dr. Mitaishvili dramatically transformed the hospital’s anesthesia services. Previously reliant on external specialists, he trained physicians in anesthesiology, enabling them to provide all major anesthesia services in-house. In 1991-1992, he and other colleagues established post-anesthesia care and intensive care units at the hospital.

During the Russian invasion of Abkhazia in 1992, Dr. Mitaishvili served at the Children’s Hospital, enduring bombings and shootings. After his homeland was occupied, he left.

From 1993 to 1997, Dr. Mitaishvili served as director of the anesthesiology department and medical technology consultant at Interprom Service Inc. in Moscow, Russia. He combined clinical care and teaching with his research endeavors. During this time, he began volunteering with Doctors Without Borders and the International Red Cross, providing reconstructive surgery and anesthesia for children in developing countries. Between 1996 and 1997, he also served as chairman of the Eastern Department of Techprom Inc. in Geneva, Switzerland. He continued his humanitarian work, traveling the world to provide care to children in need. Many residents accompanied him on these trips, gaining experience in administering anesthesia under challenging conditions. He relocated to California with his wife, Gina, and their two children in 1997.

An estimated 26 million people, 13% of the United States population, are living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), and this number continues to grow. If current trends continue, there will not be enough specialists to serve this expanding patient population.

In medicine, dialysis (from Greek "dialusis", meaning dissolution, "dia", meaning through, and "lysis", meaning loosening) is primarily used to provide an artificial replacement for lost kidney function in people with renal failure. Dialysis may be used for those with an acute disturbance in kidney function (acute kidney injury, previously acute renal failure) or for those with progressive but chronically worsening kidney function–a state known as chronic kidney disease stage 5 (previously chronic renal failure or end-stage kidney disease). The latter form may develop over months or years, but in contrast to acute kidney injury is not usually reversible, and dialysis is regarded as a "holding measure" until a renal transplant can be performed, or sometimes as the only supportive measure in those for whom a transplant would be inappropriate.Across the nation, dialysis technicians are assuming increasing responsibility for the safety and well-being of patients on dialysis. From dialyzer reprocessing to patient care, technician training and experience are a crucial link in providing safe and effective patient care. The purpose of the Textbook for the Dialysis Technician is to provide basic information on the varying duties dialysis technicians may have in a dialysis center. The modules cover both technical and clinical aspects of dialysis treatment. This Textbook for the Dialysis Technician is offered as a general educational guide for dialysis technicians and other medical professionals.ISBN: Hardcover 978-0-9827274-1-6

It is generally agreed that precise diagnosis is fundamental for the planning of treatment and for the assessment of prognosis especially in the very sensitive field, hematology.

An attempt has been made of helping practitioners, students, and just a reader to understand more about blood components, and blood typing. I had no intention of writing a textbook of hematology, but my intention was to produce a book which would be a supplement such as a textbook. This book can be recommended with confidence to doctors, nurses, students, and even the general public interested in this subject, as well as to medical laboratory technicians, and phlebotomists whose training will be accelerated and benefited by the reference to my book.
